Raised the son of two textile workers, Darrell learned through example the values of determination, hard work, and honesty. After finishing high school, Darell enrolled at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, where not only was he an active member of the baseball team, he also managed to complete two degrees: one in communications and one in education. Upon graduation, Darrell decided to become a teacher at Model High School, also in Rome.

Deciding to switch gears following several years teaching, Darrell took a job working in a carpet factory and, not long afterward, decided to open a carpet store of his own. Taking the advice of a friend, Darrell decided to move to Milledgeville and open up shop. A quarter century later, Darrell's Flooring America of Milledgeville continues to be one of the areas largest carpet and flooring retailers and has proudly served Baldwin County's residents, schools, and businesses.

In addition to the flooring business, Darrell is also the radio announcer for the John Milledge Academy football team, a member of the local theater group, and a member of Hardwick Bapist Church. In addition to all these responsibilities and activities, Darrell still finds time to take his mom to church every week.
